Penguin which is believed to belong to the order Sphenisciformes and the family of Spheniscidae are basically a group of aquatic, flightless birds living almost exclusively in the southern hemisphere, especially in Antarctica. It is a matter of fact that Penguin is highly adapted for life in the water. Penguins are generally known to have counter shaded shady and white plumage, and their wings are generally known to have become flippers. It is a fact that most Penguins are known to feed on krill.
Fish, squid, and other forms of sea life caught while swimming underwater. They spend about half of their life on land and half in the oceans. The largest living species is the Emperor Aptenodytes forsteri are that adults average about 1.1 m tall and weigh 35 kg which is about 75 lb or even more. The smallest species is the Little Blue Penguin also known as the Fairy species, which stands around forty cm tall and weighs one kg. Among extant penguins, larger penguins inhabit colder regions, while smaller penguins are generally found in temperate or even tropical climates.
Although such types of Animals are known to be native to the southern hemisphere, they are not found only in cold climates, such as Antarctica. In fact, only a few species of penguin live so far south. Several species are found in the temperate zone, and one species, the Galapagos Penguin, lives near the equator.
Some prehistoric species attained enormous sizes, becoming as tall or as heavy as an adult human. These were not restricted to Antarctic regions, on the contrary, sub Antarctic regions harbored high diversity, and at least one giant penguin occurred in a region not quite two thousand km south of the equator thirty five mya, in a climate decidedly warmer than these days.
