Gorillas are the main of the living primates. They are ground dwelling and mainly herbivorous. They live in the forests of central Africa. Gorillas are alienated into two species and (still under discuss as of 2008) either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is 98% to 99% alike to that of a human, and they are the next adjacent living relatives to humans after the two chimpanzee species. Although their range covers a little percentage of Africa, gorillas cover broad variety of elevations.
The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2225 to 4267 m (7300 to14000 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in solid forests and lowland swamps and marshes as short as sea level. Gorillas live in tropical or subtropical forests.
The neighboring relatives of gorillas are chimpanzees and humans, from which gorillas diverged about 7 million years ago. Human genes differ only 1.6% on standard from their matching gorilla genes in their sequence, but there is further dissimilarity in how many copies each gene has. Freshly there was considered to be a solitary gorilla species, with three subspecies: the Western Lowland Gorilla, the Eastern Lowland Gorilla and the Mountain Gorilla. There is now conformity that there are two species with two subspecies each. More lately it has been claimed that a third subspecies exists in one of the species.
Primatologists persist to explore the relationships between different gorilla populations. The species and subspecies listed here are the ones upon which largely scientists agree. The Eastern Gorilla is more mysteriously colored than the Western Gorilla, with the Mountain Gorilla being the darker of every one The Mountain Gorilla as well has the thickest hair. The Western Lowland Gorilla can be brown or grayish amongst a reddish forehead. In adding, gorillas that live in lowland forests are more slim and sprightly than the more bulky Mountain Gorilla. Gorillas are herbivores, eating fruits, leaves, and shoots. Additionally they are classified as foliovores. Much alike to other animals that feed on plants and shoots, they sometimes consume little insects as well.
